Galaxies were not born as we see them today. They started as small clumps of dark matter that attracted gas which condensed to form of stars. Giving enough time -billions of years - hundreds of billions of stars will form within the typical galaxy, making them to shine furiously during a time. However, this phase of high activity do not last forever and for different causes galaxies will stop forming stars and will slowly age and dim. In the talk we will discuss the the birth, life and slow death of the galaxies, with emphasis on the different mechanisms involved in the galaxy ageing.
