How do extrasolar planets form?

14.06.2013

I will be taking you on a voyage through young stellar systems, where planets are born. It is a journey where I will explain how the gas and dust revolves around a young star in a disk, and how this disk evolves through time as planets are assembled within them. It will be an observational voyage too, where I will also lead you through different observatories (around the world and also in space) that are being used to study such systems. Currently we know of almost 900 extrasolar planets, these planets have a variety of masses, sizes, and orbits, and we can only begin to understand these different architectures if we understand the disks in which they formed.
